Imagine if you could design the areas around Queen’s Park, how would it look?

Imagine the Shawlands public square…maybe with more comfortable seating.  Maybe with some more greenery around, to offset the traffic and something for shade and shelter.

How do we want to use the square?  How do we make a place where everyone in the community feels welcome and wants to be?

Imagine Queen’s Park glasshouses…maybe it’s an events space, highlighting young local talent, or a garden for community growing.  Imagine the other things we could do there.   It’s always been a special place for people with young children…what do they need?

Imagine walking and cycling easily and safely around the neighbourhood, without cars driving too fast and dangerously.  Imagine that it’s easy to get into the park from any point and you don’t risk your life crossing the road.   What’s missing from this picture?

Imagine there are no places that feel off-limits and that you’re living in the safest neighbourhood in the friendliest city in the world! Imagine that feeling of safety applies, whatever your age, gender, race, disability or sexuality.  What do we need to do to make that real?

Imagine we have the kind of community facilities that everyone can afford to use.  Everyone from yogis to dancers, from local crafts fairs to warm spaces, from AA to parent and toddler groups, and with no barriers to access.

Imagine if most people gave a bit of their time to help in the community. Imagine we still had that local community spirit we had during the pandemic, anything from small to large.  Got older neighbours who don’t use social media?  Help us keep them informed of what’s going on. Come on a litter pick, water some plants, add your views to a survey.  All these things matter.

Imagine the community making decisions about our future and making the Council listen to us. Imagine the community changing things around here. Imagine that even in these challenging financial times, we can find the resources to make things happen.

Imagine local people leading.

We need you…

We want to create a local place plan that we can use to make a difference for our community.  But we can’t do it without you.

We want to hear your views, so that we create a plan that’s based on local ideas and the real needs of the community.  A shared aspiration.

Imagine the power of our voices raised as one.
