Glasgow Shawlands

IMAGINE...

The Shawlands' public square… maybe with more comfortable seating.
Maybe with more greenery around, to offset the traffic, something for shade and shelter too.
How do we all want to use this square? How do we make this a place where everyone in the community feels welcome and wants to be?

02Glasshouse
IMAGINE...

Queen’s Park glasshouses… maybe with an events space, highlighting young local talent, or with areas for community growing.
Imagine other things we could do if the community had a space we could programme.
It’s always been a special place for people with young children… what do they need?

03Traffic
IMAGINE...

Walking and cycling easily and safely around the neighbourhood, without cars driving too fast and dangerously.
Imagine that it’s easy to get into the park from any point and you don’t risk your life crossing the road.
What’s missing from this picture?

Our Aim

Queen's Park

Local people from community councils, community organisations and local businesses have teamed up, secured some grants from Glasgow City Council and will spend the rest of this year developing a Local Place Plan with local communities around the park.

We are QPN – Queen’s Park Neighbourhoods. We need You to get involved in imagining the future!

A Local Place Plan (LPP) is a community-led plan that focuses on the physical environment, such as buildings and public spaces, and when it’s finished, we can submit it for inclusion in the Glasgow City Development Plan. Unlike council plans, the community owns this plan and any data that we collect – meaning, for example, that once the plan is completed we can apply for funding for what’s in the plan.

The LPP will build on the results of the consultation work currently underway looking within Queen’s Park. Our Plan will also look at the spaces and buildings just outside the park, from the civic square at Langside Halls to various buildings towards Battlefield, including the Queen’s Park glasshouses. We’ll build on work done relatively recently for the Connecting Battlefield project, which involved thorough consultation with local people.

So, what are we going to be doing?  We  are going to be out and about in the neighbourhood over the coming months.
